This is dedicated to all the fathers and future fathers out there, on Father's Day
I captured this touching moment 3 years ago, on one of the first days we'd moved to the city. Wolf had been walking around our kid-filled neighborhood, but was sad that he hadn't been able to make any new friends yet, so his father comforted him
I realise most Fathers' Day pics are of happier moments, but I just think seeing this big, muscular tough guy in such a tender scene is something special.
This is such a touching photo and what being a Father is all about, it's easy to be a good Dad during the happy times it's what they do in the sad times that count.
This is so touching and beautiful. Sometimes I think we don't allow fathers to nurture enough. Us mothers always jump in and do it. Just instinct I suppose. I find it strange to be hearing about Fathers Day. In Oz, Fathers Day is usually the second Sunday in September and Mothers Day the first Sunday in May. Strange how we all have different days. I wonder what days they are on in other countries or if they have these days.

i was just telling milbisous about the german version of father's day "vatertag" or also called "himmelfahrt" which translates at "heaven trip" or, "the ascension". anyway... himmelfahrt in germany is about men hiking up to the highest point where they live, either hills or mountains, to get closer to jesus or whatever... but in actuality, it is about getting as besotted as possible - i call it "getting drunk for jesus" day
anyway... the german wikipedia entry for 'himmelfahrt" or "vatertag" says that including "father's day (vatertag) as part of the holiday was based on the US celebration. it is the first of june, i think. and mother's day in the US is in may, so we're close, at least with mother's day. and also germans have mother's day the same sunday in may. i guess both are a day of honoring of the parents that resonated with many different countries, whether or not used commercially.
i just saw a couple of days ago an ad urging people to buy a father's day CAKE, which i've never heard of! most men i know dislike cake. :/
we had manly grilled steaks and shrimp (on the barbie!) for dinner tonight, then sat on the back deck and drank copious amounts of red wine and that's the way a REAL man celebrates his day

Hmm, he sounds very similar to the father in our family except ours likes cake, mud cake that is and copious amounts of port. Sort of close to red wine. I think the reason why we all seem to have Mothers Day on the same day is that it was the one celebrated first, then I think we all felt sorry for the dads.
