escargot, anyone?

shot this back in my "artistic" college days.

1983. canon AE1 camera, macro lens, b&w film, developed and printed myself in the school's darkroom, which, as the school had been a mortuary before, the darkroom was down in the cremation room. creepy turning off all the lights - i usually finagled another student into going into the darkroom with me so i wouldn't have to listen to all the sighs and whispers and crackling flames of fires past...

anyway... getting off topic there... this can of snails was in my mother's cupboard for YEARS! it became a running joke. when we had dinner guests, i would bring out the can and, in full view of the guests, call out to my mother, "Hey, MOM! why don't we have these snails tonight? we've only had them for EIGHT years.. they shouldn't be too slimy yet, don'tcha think?"

the living snails were gathered by me in just a few minutes of searching through our shared 8foot by 20 foot backyard in san francisco.

i'm going to try to submit this to the natureclub's snail contest, if i can figure out how one submits to the contest...
