my son's first grade classmates went on a field trip to a nearby ancient ice cave found in a volcanic landscape in an arid part of idaho.
the ice cave was filled with glacier ice, thousands of years old. humans started mining the ice a hundred years ago, until their blasting in order to mine deeper and deeper destroyed the special circumstances that allowed the ice to stay frozen. over the next several years, the ice completely melted away, and the cave was abandoned.
a man who had crawled in through a narrow passageway when he was a kid became obsessed with the cave, and spent over 20 years filling the blasted areas back up with rubble, and now, the ice is slowly returning, at maybe an inch a year. but it is returning

i know what you mean - the clouds shape mimics the shape of the shrubs - both round or oval ah... i guess that is why we sometimes talk about "billowing clouds" and also "billowing shrubs" - the billowing describes that special shape
kinda strange, when you go up northern nevada it's like a different place all together and the you get back to the desert a little bit and then it's forests again.

the clouds were incredible - so was the wind. it was a bit of a stormy day, but i loved the drama it added to the pics.
