so, i'm not upset, just curious - i had a photo zasu.deviantart.com/art/Just-a… moved from Street, and into Urban and Rural/Miscellaneous. so i'm wondering why one is more accurate than the other.

the Street gallery info states it is for:Street photography featuring people in candid situations in public places.

my photo features a little boy looking down from a window overlooking the street.

the Urban and Rural/Miscellaneous gallery info states: Urban and rural photography focuses on cities and skylines, farmland and buildings and suburbia.

i don't see anything specifically about people in that. not that it specifically excludes people either, but how do i determine the difference? is this clearer to you than it seems to be to me?

the street photography cat is one that always envokes the wrath of trolls. I personal hate posting those kinds of shots because I am sure some one will bitch.

yeah, i've learned my lesson - dare not tread where big footed arrogant self-righteous wound-too-tight types stalk the streets. lol. i'm an "urban & rural cat" girl now :D

such confusion...I haven't even tried to submit something "urban" or other...I see way toooooo many mistakes in the"wild animals" (sheep? pet dogs? chickens?) lol, I occationally spend a few minutes sending miscast notes, but when I count 18 out of 25 deviations in a row being miscast I realize most people don't even care!

well, i figure most mistakes are made by non-english speakers who are just doing the best they can to navigate through a confusing site - i have a russian dA friend who just communicates with emoticons and... does what he can with the categories with sometimes surprising results. but when it's pretty close, it doesn't bother me

just to note this is :iconstuartperry: here,
first the photo you submitted to street is in fact urban. No doubt. The Moderator was correct.
If the photo of the boy was looking onto a scene that was in the public level and was included in the field of view then yes street but a crop of that view is urban that's it.
secondly these following signs in brackets denote administrators in DA who actually have the power to move, remove and DD photos they are as follows (` and ^) if you notice none of the admin on :iconthe-yard-collective: have these precursives. So therefore we don't have the power to even suggest your photo is removed or moved or anything. We do though have that power inside our club and our club only. And we support one another right or wrong on any decision one of our admins has made.
I hope that clarifies things better for you.
Any questions please ask, as it is better to ask questions than to get yourself tense when things are moved.
Anything in doubt upload to scraps, note us and we will advise you the category.

i have a photo of a puppy with a heart shaped spot on his nose. i put it in Photography>Animals. a club i submitted it to, put it in Photo Manipulation. i told them this puppy really does have this mark. they told me that my photo was too small to be categorized as Photography. dA's new rule.

could this be the reason?

well, my photos aren't very small in file size. i think that's silly your puppy with the heart shaped spot wasn't considered animal photography. i know that adorable photo you're talking about, and the club you put it in too - i thought it was perfect for submitting there. maybe they're so used to photomanips they can't see things any other way :D

yeah, it bothered me. i thought they thought i made the pic look that way. but, people still have to visit my gallery to fave it.

did you submit to a club? and they changed it?

no, just submitted to my own account. but thought that MAYBE a club i joined on the same day, that specializes in the same category, may have had some member that came over and thought my photo didn't belong in the street category. i wasn't complaining about that, just wanted to understand more clearly the criteria for each category.

Oh, and to answer your question... no, it's not clearer. Write to the dA person in charge and ask them... it will probably be changed back.

how do i find the person in charge of that category? i actually suspect it may have been someone from the new Street Photography club i just joined who complained, though i haven't submitted anything yet.

Read this page:

Then hit the contact for the help desk and explain your problem. They'll send you a note with an explanation.

As I remember, that's what I did...

not really. and i know i'm not alone - i saw a big feature on windows and walls, and several of the photos featured people behind or hanging out of windows, with no actual street in sight, yet most categorized as "street." i realize all those photographers could be considered wrong, but it shows me that the category really isn't as clear as *some* people think it is.

we are not interfering with our members uploads in anyway!
It's their right to upload in whichever category they want!
The responsible Gallery Moderator for Street Photography in dA is ^bQw who is known for changing categories. Complain to him, rather, than suspecting the Yard :)
We never complain for our members' submissions. In fact we have much more serious things to take care of, concerning our club.
Additionaly, we still see, that though you have joined our club our avatar still is not in your journal. Please take care of that. Thank you.

i realised i should have mentioned that i wasn't thinking it was a mod from the club - rather, i'd commented favorably on several member's submissions, and imagined that one of those members serious about street photography might have visited me back, and felt it didn't belong in that category.

i tried to contact bQw in a note, but was told i'm not authorised to note him. i guess he has some kind of block on his account. and the help desk doesn't seem to have a category for asking about deviation relocations.

sorry, it was in the last one i posted yesterday... still have to get used to the idea of posting that every time.

it just seemed like interesting timing that i joined the club yesterday, and my street submission to my account was changed the day. not that i am convinced it was because of that, but you might see how one might think that - what would you have thought if the same two things happened on the same day?

on the other hand, i am seriously NOT complaining, only curious for future reference, as i thought i'd gotten it right. i can also see how urban & rural might fit - just want to have the differences clarified.

I've had stuff moved, too. Some higher up somewhere didn't think my picture was macro... so they changed that one and every other macro picture I had to other galleries.

Meanwhile, the ones I have never been sure of stayed where they are.

I bitched and they moved the picture back. I probably could have just changed it on my own back to where it belonged (for some reason it was that ONE picture that bothered me the most (as it was most recent), and it was the principle of the matter, ya know?

lol... that's right - there are so many i haven't been sure of, yet they've never been moved. not that i was certain about this one, but "street" with its mention of people in public places just seemed the best fit.

which photo of yours was moved and then returned?

It was this one: [link]

I had to point out that the focal length was 38mm, which is macro. Obviously, you can't tell by the picture how small the thread is, so I understand the confusion.

But they also changed

And every other picture I had as macro... I just left them as is. I figures I'll pick my battles. I may just change them back one day when I'm bored enough.
